the following blog is kind of racist; depending on how you look at it. i am filipino and i'm proud of it; but is it possible to be too proud? is it also possible that filipinos don't really have pride? i would like to start say, first of all, that i am a hypocrite. why am i saying this? because most of the things that i will say kind of apply to me. also please note that this doesn't apply to ALL filipinos, just most of the ones that i don't really like as much :x in my opinion, i found that filipinos tend to be really proud of being filipino. however, i believe they are proud for the wrong reasons. in high school i didn't really find that joining a filipino club would help me become more filipino. i only saw it as "we love adobo. we love lumpia. we love pancit. we sing karaoke. blah blah MANNY PACQUIO" although, in their defense, i would have to say that i've never been to a filipino club meeting so i can't say that that's what they do; but as an an outsider that's what i saw. i recently went to a pcn (i won't mention which school but i think some people can figure it out) and during the filipino national anthem, all the people that were participants of the filipino club shot one arm to the sky diagonally (kind of like the nazi thing, but with their fists clenched) i can't blame them all though, cause my sister (who was one of the participants) said that one guy told everyone to do it so everyone did it. what a stupid kid. i forgot why but my uncle (who watched the pcn) was offended. again, i forgot the reasons why ... they see it as the universal symbol "resistance and unity." but i'm thinking "resistance to what?!?!?!" i mean i'm proud that they're "resisting and uniting" but it's like ... i really really REALLY don't think it was appropriate to use symbol during the national anthem. i attended my first filipino club meeting (i am in college now) and i would have to say that i underestimated them. (of course, i kind of wish i attended a filipino club meeting in high school so i can really compare). the main agenda of the club was to go over club activities and a 15-min "fun fact lecture" about something part of filipino culture. (at this meeting the topic was basketball, apparently the filipino "nba" is the second largest basketball association in the world :D) another thing that i don't like (but i tend to be a victim of) is filipinos "promoting" filipinos stars. i mean, yes, jabbawockeez were the winners of ABDC season 1 but what does 1/2 of them being filipino have to do with it? rin on the rox is good too but so what if they're filipino? yes, that main PCD girl is 1/2 filipino but so what? i mean, i'll admit i do tend to say "omg she's filipinio!" but i find it kind of immature. so what if they're filipino? would they get as many fans if they were another race? i know most people won't agree to this but it's like we're trying to promote filipinos as a "superior race." ------ okay okay, letme rephrase everything i just said in the last paragraph hahaha. so, i think it's (kind of) okay to say "oh she's filipino". but i guess what i meant to say is ... i don't like people that put something similar to this: "happyslip is filipino! that thriller video was filmed in the philippines! vanessa hudgens is 1/2 filipino! that one dude from black eyed peas is filipino! vanessa hudgens is 1/2 filipino! whoo filipino!!!!!!!!!" i mean C'MON! like, i would be okay if i was conversing with someone and they go "hey did you know that ______ is filipino." and i'll be like "really?" but if they were like "omgggg filipinos are so cool! did you know that _______ is filipino? and __________??? and _________?!:!?!?! -squeals-" like ... yes i'm happy that there's talented filipinos out there ... but it's not like filipinos are the only talented race. this is kind of off-topic but you know what annoys me? the filipino girl dancers on those filipino shows. they barely even dance, all they do is really really really REALLY simple choreo in really revealing clothing (which i found more skanky then fashionable) i also don't like filipino remakes, songs, films, tv, etc (sometimes). i guess it depends. i saw a korean drama called "my name is kim sam soon." guess what? the filipinos remade it. i mean it was a really good drama so i was expecting it to remade by the filipinos. but it just wasn't the same as the original korean drama. in the filipino version, kim sam soon's mom chased the rich guy's mom out of the house with a machete o.o that NEVER happened in the korean version (i would like to point out that this doesn't only apply to filipino remakes ... but filipnos tend to be the ones that remake it while it's still "fresh") ummm i think i'll end here cause i don't know what else to say. i would like to say i'm sorry if i offended anyone. i repeat that i am a filipino, and some of these things do kind of apply to me. i just felt like stating my opinion. by the way, is there any filipino-american out there that DOESN'T have a relative working in the postal service? i'm serious. i've yet to find someone. |
